MEA and Apostille

What is MEA Apostille? The Hague Convention

Apostille refers to the process of legalizing a document for international use within Hague Convention Countries (120+ Countries, refer list below).  In India, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) handles apostille services centrally in Delhi. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) authenticate your documents so they are recognized internationally within Hague Convention. It’s like giving your papers an official stamp of approval that other member countries will accept.

India became a member of the Hague Convention on August 14, 2005, and as a result, introduced the concept of apostille attestation to facilitate the hassle-free use of Indian documents abroad.

We offers a simple and hassle-free way to get your documents apostilled by the MEA. We’re here to guide you through every step, making sure your papers are ready for use wherever you need them.

APOSTILLE PROCESS IN INDIA:

Timeline: 2-4 Working Days

Let's delve into the intricate layers of the Apostille process, starting from the regional level and progressing to the MEA Apostille.

1) Regional Level Attestation:

Initially, documents undergo thorough verification by local authorities such as Notary Publics, University.

2) State Level Attestation:

Following regional attestation, documents proceed to the state level for further validation. In India, each state has its distinct procedures and departments for attestation, contributing to an additional layer of authentication:

i) State Home Department (SHD):

The SHD verifies personal documents like birth certificates, marriage certificates, affidavits, and death certificates to ensure they are genuine.

ii) Human Resource Department (HRD):

The HRD attests educational documents like diplomas, degrees, mark sheets, and school certificates to confirm they are genuine.

iii) General Administration Department (GAD):

In some states, the GAD attests both personal and educational documents, simplifying the process for government-related matters.

iv) Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) in Delhi:

Serving as a central authority in Delhi, the SDM attests both personal and educational documents on behalf of all states, ensuring uniformity and efficiency in the attestation process.
v) Chamber of Commerce (CoC):The Chamber of Commerce attests commercial documents such as invoices, certificates of origin, and other business-related papers to validate their authenticity for international trade and business transactions.

3) Apostille by MEA (Ministry of External Affairs) : Finally, the apostille is carried out by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), which serves as the apex authority for document legalization in India.
